Hi everyone,
First, I would like to welcome our new members! The NY Composers Meetup is growing and lots of excellent new people are getting into the mix and networking with their fellow artists.
Second, I want to say thanks to everyone who came last time for making it a great meetup. You guys make these meetups worth while because you bring your music, questions, ideas, and give feeback.
Third, a big thank you to Dan Yurkofsky for doing such an excellent presentation about recording in your home studio. In fact, you all voted to have Dan return and continue his presentation for our next meetup. So, that is exactly what we will do. Dan will focus his talk on microphones and mic technique--which types for what purposes, etc.--and make recommendations for your own situations. So, come with your questions.
We will organize the meetup like we did last time. It will be split into two parts:
In part one, Dan Yurkofsky (a veteran NY Composer Meetup member) will conclude his presentation on home recording, as mentioned above. Dan is a songwriter/composer who is highly trained in music technology, and teaches classes in both Pro-Tools and Logic.
In part two, we will return to playing your music. We did not get to everyone last time, so we will do are best to get to as many people as possible.
Finally, if you have not voted in our Meetup Poll, please do so. (Go to the NY Composers Meetup website and click "Polls.") Because of our growth, we are considering starting a separate tech session for the NY Composers Meetup that would meet in addition to our regular meetup. The poll shows that 90% of you favor this idea. Wow! That is a powerful indicator. We will discuss this in more detail at the meeting, too.
If you are a newcomer and want to play your music, the easiest way is to bring an iPod, or a CD of some of your tracks, which can be played through my laptop and/or monitors. Try to keep your selections down to about 5 minutes or so.
If you wish to perform live, that is great! There is a digital piano that is decent. The sound system is my small m-audio monitors with RCA, stereo 1/8th inch mini, or 1/4 inch inputs. So, calculate your amplification needs accordingly. If you have any questions, performance-based, tech, or otherwise, please feel free to drop me an e-mail.
The Tada Theater is in Chelsea at 15 West 28th Street between Broadway and 5th Avenue--very easy to get to. You Westsiders can take the 1 train to 28th Street and walk a few blocks east. And, the R and W local trains stop just a few hundred feet from the building entrance. Tada is on the uptown side of 28th Street. The building entrance is next to a parking lot in the middle of the block. (I'm not sure what the parking situation is in the evening, but allow extra time if you're driving.)
Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
All best,
Preston
