Hi everyone,
Opportunity knocks! Jimmy Webb will be our special guest for our next New York Composers Meetup on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:30 PM at the Cell Theater in NYC, sponsored by the New York Art Ensemble and Sam Ash Music.
In this seminar about his music, the music business, and all things musical that you would like to ask, Jimmy Webb will have answers.
Whether you're into pop, rock, jazz, classical, Broadway, cabaret, or whatever, the art of the song remains one of the most challenging and rewarding pursuits for composers and lyricists.
I don’t care what genre/style you are into, there is always something to learn from an established master of song writing. So, I hope you will take advantage of this one-time opportunity to ask questions and get answers from Jimmy Webb.
Also, several of you from our last meetup recommended Jimmy’s book Tunesmith—Inside the Art of Songwriting (Hyperian Press, 1998). I couldn’t agree more. If you get a chance to buy and read this book before the seminar, it will definitely be worth it—a treasure trove of information. It should be part of any serious composer’s library.
Speaking of worth it, the meetup fee for this special event will be $15 for NY Composer members, and $20 for non-members. We’ll be at the Cell Theater, which costs more, and we’ll be paying Mr. Webb along with other expenses.
Non-members will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.
Finally, a special thank you to Michael Metassi for being the point man on this meetup and working out the details with Mr. Webb, Sam Ash Music, et al. Great job, Michael!
As usual, during the meetup feel free to have wine and munchies. If you want beer, it is BYO. (I can only carry so much stuff! ; )
Location:
The Cell Theater is a small but beautiful theater/art gallery/concert space located in Chelsea on West 23rd Street between 8th & 9th Avenue. The space seats about 50 people. That means seating is limited! Make sure you respond ASAP!
(This will be our last Meetup for 2008. Our next Meetup will be in January, 09.)
Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
All best,
Preston
