Hi Everybody,
I am pleased to announce our first New York Composers Tech Meetup. It will take place at Sam Ash, in NYC.
In general, these new Tech Meetups will address issues you have raised at our regular meetings—home recording, use and types of mics, tips and tircks, acoustics, software, hardware, etc. The idea is to put practical information into your hands so you can learn and then become more effective with your own music.
I am also pleased to announce the participation of Sam Ash in making this first Tech Meetup possible.
Here are the details.
New York Composers Tech Meetup: Monday, April 20, 6PM to 8PM at Sam Ash Music in NYC.
Subject: ProTools, mic technique, home recording, etc.
In this first Tech Meetup we will focus primarily on ProTools. However, many of the recording questions you have asked in the past will be addressed too.
In addition to ProTools, other software plug-ins, mic techniques and recording tips will be discussed and/or demonstrated.
The workshop will be led by Richard Augustin, the Sam Ash Store Manager. I have met with Richard. He really knows his stuff and is an experienced recording engineer who understands the software/hardware scene.
In addition, DigiDesign (the company that makes ProTools) will be sending their NorthEast rep to answer your questions, as well.
Unfortunately, we will have limited space—only about 20 people will fit in the room. So if you're interested, make sure you RSVP right away.
There will be the usual $10 meetup fee. We will use PayPal to collect the fee. (Mostly because I hate going to the bank to break all your twenties! ; ) This money goes into our non-profit meetup “kitty” and helps pay our expenses.
No money goes to Sam Ash. Sam Ash is doing this because it serves their interest to educate people about these products--and get you all hot and bothered enough to buy! (Loss leader kind of stuff.)
So, if you are considering buying ProTools, or if you own ProTools, this is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge. It is also good for those of you interested in recording techniques, microphones and placement, voice and instrument treatment (compression, reverb, de-essing, pitch correction) etc.
We will continue doing these Tech Meetups in the coming months. The next one will probably cover Logic and other software applications. So, keep your ideas coming. These workshops are designed to meet your needs.
Finally, we will be doing our regular New York Composers Meetups (that focus strictly on your music) separately from the Tech Meetups. So, stay tuned. Our next one will be a few days after the Tech Meetup.
See you at Sam Ash on the 20th.
Best,
Preston
